COLUMBUS, Ohio (CN) — You can’t get more antique than a pair of antique tiles, and you can’t have more antique in a brick or slate building than you do.
But that’s not the case at the antiques market.
With the exception of an antiquarian auction house, where some of the most sought-after tile pieces are found, you’ll find little or no competition.
“I’ve seen some beautiful pieces in auction for $10,000, but they’re still only worth half a million,” said Antoine Diggs, owner of Antique Tile Bar & Grill in downtown Columbus.
“It’s just not worth the effort to have an antique.”
Antique tiles have been around for thousands of years, but have become more expensive and scarce as they have become prized by collectors for their decorative effect.
They are often found in historic buildings like the American Revolution Museum in Washington, D.C.
Diggs and his co-owner, Tim Diggs of Columbus, said antique tiles were often auctioned off for as little as $1,000 or $1.50 each, and often sold for a couple of thousand dollars apiece.
In fact, Diggs said, a typical antique tile can be sold for between $10 and $20, and even that is an inflated figure.
“You can sell a pair for $4,000 to $6,000,” he said.
“A couple hundred bucks can go a long way.”
Antiques sell at auction for a few thousand dollars, but only for a single tile, said Diggs.
You need to be sure to pay attention to how much is included in the bid and how much will be paid by the seller, he said, especially if it is a high-end tile.
Dales said he would have paid more for a piece he thought would fetch $10 or $15, but he was unable to get the piece he wanted.
Diggs had been trying to find the perfect antique tile, so he made a call to a local auction house.
He called back several times, only to receive a phone call that said the seller was unable come to the auction house to accept the bidding, so the item had been sold.
The owner of the antique shop told Diggs that the auction company didn’t allow antique tiles on their premises because they would have to pay to remove them from the building, Digs said.
Digs said he called back again and again to try and convince the owner to allow the antique tiles to be sold, and each time, he was told that he could only bid on pieces that were actually sold.
He then contacted the seller and explained to him that if he could get the tiles out, he would sell them for a reasonable price.
Digg said that the owner of his antique shop had told him that it would be “a great honor” to have the tiles on display in his store.
Digs is not alone in his desire to sell his antique tile.
Antique tiles are among the most desirable pieces in the world.
The antique market is a hot one.
Antiques and collectibles are selling out quickly, and many are available for sale on eBay and other sites.
In many cases, the auction houses that sell them are only offering the pieces as a one-time-only deal.
But in some cases, an antique piece may only be sold as a limited edition.
If that’s the case, Digg said, you will have to negotiate a price.
When you do, Dgs said, the odds of finding an original tile are slim.
He said that in his experience, you would have no choice but to pay the highest bidder.
“A lot of times it’s not even worth the bid,” he added.
“If the person is willing to pay for it, then I would do it.
It’s just a lot more work, a lot of money.”
Antiquary Tile Bar and Grill has a small antique shop that sells pieces of antique tile that are worth anywhere from $1 to $5,000 each.
Digg says that his salesperson has the most experience selling antique tile and will sell the pieces for anywhere from five to seven figures.
“They’re selling some of my best-known pieces, like the Liberty Bell, and they sell them to collectors, too,” Diggs explained.
“I think they’re getting more interested in antique tile than they are the Liberty bell.”
Diggs said he was surprised that a tile could be so expensive, especially in the market of $1 million or $2 million, and that”
There’s a lot to do and a lot you have to do, so that’s why I wouldn’t have liked it to go as high as $30,000.”
